Natural Ways to Purify your Home

Did you know – the air inside our homes can sometimes be 2 to 5 times more polluted and toxic than the air we breathe outside?

Our mattresses, clothing, nail polish, cleaning products, cooking, and other everyday household products and activities all contribute to this problem. This makes us ask, how can we improve the air quality in our homes without spending an exorbitant amount on an air purifier? There are actually a few ways to easily and affordably improve the air quality in your home- we made a list!

1. Plants

Air purifying plants remove harmful pollutants like formaldehyde, benzene, trichloroethylene, and carbon monoxide. According to NASA’s Clean Air Study, some of the best indoor house plants to reduce toxins in your home are:

    • Devil’s Ivy or pothos (Epipremnum aureum)
    • Dwarf Date Palm (Phoenix Roebelenii)
    • Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum)
    • Philodendron
    • Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)

        2. Increase ventilation

In order to prevent the growth of mold and mildew (these toxins thrive in moist damp environments) - turn on the bathroom fan when you shower and open your windows if possible. The fresh air is not only good for your home, but also your mind and body.

        3. Essential Oils

These concentrated oils derived from plants have a multitude of health benefits and antiseptic properties. Try diffusing pure essential oils in your home for clean air and a beautiful aroma. It has been proven that viruses, fungi, bacteria, and mold cannot survive in the presence of the following essential oils:

          4. DIY All-Purpose Cleaner

Try this recipe to clean your home and surfaces without using harsh chemicals like ammonia or bleach. To make - fill a spray bottle with the listed ingredients below and shake well.
