The days are finally getting longer and brighter which means...spring has arrived! Time to shed those extra winter layers and lighten up for the new season.
Kiss winter goodbye and spring into action with these 5 tips to get you blooming:
1. Do some spring cleaning
We all have those items that have been sitting in our closet or under our sink just collecting dust. Spring is the perfect time for a fresh start. Time to declutter and throw away old items that don’t add joy to your life. Storage space is limited and we want to make sure that all of it is being used for items that we truly need and love.
Take everything out of your closet and do a deep clean. Go through your closet and evaluate each item. Ask yourself: “when’s the last time I wore this?", “do I love this?", “will I wear this”, and “does it fit?” Then, make two separate piles — one for items you want to keep and another for items you want to donate or throw away. Place the items that are in good condition into a box or large garbage bag so you can easily donate them to your local thrift store or charity.
After you’re done sweeping through your closet, it’s time to get organizing. Organize your clothes based on the frequency of use, clothing type, and/or colour. Having a nicely organized closet saves time for the future you. The next time you plan an outfit you’ll be able to easily find what you’re looking for instead of digging through your entire wardrobe just to find a particular piece.
When hanging the clothes you’ve decided to keep back onto your closet’s clothing rod, place the hanger on backwards. Whenever you’re done wearing something, you can place the hanger back the correct way. This will make it easier for your next big declutter session as you’ll be able to see which clothes you’ve worn and which clothes you haven’t!
Don’t forget to also deep clean your bathroom! Dispose old products that have exceeded the best after opening date. You can find this date by looking on the product’s packaging for a symbol of a container. This symbol should have a number which indicates the length of time the product maintains its full efficacy after it has been opened. Be sure to properly rinse out the empty product containers so it can be accepted for recycling.
